1906 Journey StoryMap

The ArcGIS StoryMap can be accessed here or scroll further down this page to view. Additionally, a German language version is available here

The StoryMap draws upon newspaper and archival material. The first step was the newspaper mapping process. For a month by month version of the static 1906 newspaper map, take a look here.

For this static map, over 300 press reports were manually filtered according to content, with duplicate stories, very short reports, or those not specifically mentioning a geographical location removed. As such, of the several hundred reports, just over 70 articles were selected for use in this initial map to visualise the journey. Here each dot represents a newspaper article that ties the visitors to a specific place on a specific date. For a rationale of the selection process, see here and this blogpost).
